Why It Is So Difficult to Become Healthy

Today, more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of eating healthy and having a healthy lifestyle. Media and online sties today are full on info on the healthy lifestyle, the right kinds of food to eat, and whatever you need to know on achieving this kind of lifestyle. Despite of these literature and all the warnings given to us, there are still a lot of people who fail in their attempt at becoming fit and healthy. Despite the warnings and despite our understanding of the warnings, there are still a lot of people who eat high-calorie diets and engage in harmful behaviors like taking drugs and drinking alcohol. There are those that have given their best to do these things but have utterly failed. People simply find it difficult to achieve a healthy lifestyle and this is why many still suffer from sickness today. So, where does the problem lie?

The influence of gratification is the main cause of this failure. We don’t want to wait for a long time to see results but we want to ratify ourselves immediately after we have done something good. People will choose an instant reward anytime if asked to decide between that or something that can be had in the future which is far better than the instant one. The problem with people is that they want everything now and they can’t wait for something that will still happen in the future even it is a far better reward than what you can have now.

If we apply this to being healthy, the reality is that you cannot immediately feel the effects or the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle. While you know that it is not good to be overweight, dieting and exercise puts you off when you think of feeling hungry afterwards, getting tired and sweaty and having you deny yourself treats for a long time. Because of the absence of immediate results, people stop dieting and exercising even though they know it is good for them. This is the reason why doing what is best you’re your health is so hard.

Applying instant gratification to your health problem can be a solution to this problem. It is not really impossible to gain health benefits while laying aside instant gratification. Overcoming the problem of instant gratification can be done in several ways. There are many tricks that can help you overcome this. One of the ways you can do it is by adding a bit of instant gratification to your health plan. If, then, you are able to achieve a health goal, do something to motivate yourself. As you get used to your new habits, you can start reducing your rewards.

Don’t ever reward yourself with food items. These things can get you past the need for instant gratification.
